Yin And Yang Aromatherapy

Your sense of smell is always incredibly significant. Which kinds are better for you? Since paraffin wax candles are said to pollute the air with soot I would advise against it for health reasons. Don't be discouraged, there are many other types of aromatherapy candles available. Candles can be made with beeswax, soybean wax, vegetable oil or even pure essential oil candles are available. All of these are great choices. They are environmentally friendly because they are derived from natural plant sources. Along with these ingredients, they are also available in different styles, sizes, and scents.

People with fibromyalgia often shy away from aromatherapy as an option because many of them are chemically sensitive and have strong reactions to fragrances. The essential oils are natural plant extracts that bear no resemblance to toxic chemical perfumes. When people with fibromyalgia have a temporary increase in symptoms, such as headache, when exposed to an essential oil, it is a detoxification response and a healing crisis response, not a result of chemical sensitivity. The difference is that the person may feel discomfort temporarily, but after that they feel a significant improvement. On the other hand, when the person is exposed to a synthetic chemical fragrance, the person will spiral downward, because the chemical has increased, not decreased, the toxic load in the body.

Colours and odours are said to have a parallel, also odours and music, and odour and shape. The notes of the Diatonic Scale (A,G,C,B,D,F,) have been correlated to odours, and various compounds in aromatic molecules are known to have certain shapes, e.g. round molecules tend to have a camphor-like smell, disc shapes to have a floral odour, and wedge shapes to have a Peppermint fragrance.

Essential oils need to be selected and used with care and caution before delivering an aromatherapy massage. Essential oils can either sedate or stimulate the recipient. Most oils are antibacterial and many anti-spasmodic. There are many aromatherapy products available in the market today which contain synthetic substances. These do not give any therapeutic health benefits and can in fact cause adverse reactions.

If it is accepted that there are active neurochemical differences between essential oils, then research should investigate not only the oils from different genuses but should also compare those from related species (e.g. Lavandula angustifolia and Lavandula officinalis).

In this method, one could take cups of boiling water into which the aromatherapy essential oils can be poured. People generally follow this much simple technique for curing cold and sneeze. The only problem with this method would be the aroma that is diffused disappear quickly and does not last long. They just live for a shorter period. Still the diffusion is faster.

Another benefit of using essential oils is that the oils can have a marked effect on one's psychological and emotional state. This is partly due to the fact that the molecules that compose the oils have the capacity to cross the blood-brain barrier, and positively effect the mind. The effects of the oils can range from relieving anxiety and improving sleep, to increasing concentration and relieving depression. The use of essential oils can relieve many of the neuropsychiatric and emotional problems related to this condition that are most disconcerting to the patient and to the people surrounding her or him.

Aroma-psychology specifically refers to the use essential oils to have a positive effect on your mind. Incorporating these natural plant pure plant extracts in to our everyday lives can uplift our moods and emotions, strengthen and stimulate our minds, aid in memory enhancement, and boost confidence. This kind of mental stimulation has a direct impact on our daily performance. Many corporations are now using essential oils to assist in improving the performance of their employees. Several years ago a study was carried out in Japan. They used lemon in the air-conditioning unit and found that the typists had made fewer errors. They also used specific oils at the end of the day having a winding down period.

Smallwood J, Brown R, Coulter F et al. Aromatherapy and behaviour disturbances in dementia: a randomized controlled trial. International Journal of Geriatric Psychiatry 2001;16:1010-13. Patients with different forms of dementia respond differently to pharmacological agents; whether the same is true regarding their response to aromatherapy remains to be determined.
